The solo Si | Si amplifies the struggle of restraining inner turmoil in order to uphold appearances: the maddening gap between our inner and outer realities - a quest for true identity.
Like a seagull flying over the North Sea — this is how the Empress Elisabeth of Austria yearned to feel. Suffocated by the expectations laid upon her, she strove to find freedom, abandoning her life at court by embarking on long voyages. The solo Si | Si is inspired by her writings, which describe the struggle of restraining inner turmoil in order to uphold appearances. Press : "[...] Si/Si, a remarkable solo for dancer Erin O'Reilly. [...] There's fine attention to detail picked up by the spotlight as O'Reilly pinches at her clothes or pulls at the ends of her fingers. A bold and compelling work, and a performer to watch." - Lyndsey Winship, Resolution review "[...] French choreographer Pauline Raineri presents an incredibly honest investigation into the depths of despair and the reality of escape." - Maya Pindar, Resolution review « Static noise and warped joints that wouldn’t look out of place in Resident Evil characterise Si|Si, a slow burner restraining huge power. [...] the momentum is oddly reminiscent of that heart-warming camper van scene in Little Miss Sunshine. » - ★★★★ Oliver Newson, BroadwayBaby |
